Letter from Pastor

Greetings in Christ!

Welcome to the website of St. Matthew the Evangelist School, Bellevue, Nebraska. Even though our parish is one of the youngest in the Archdiocese of Omaha, our school has a rich history stretching back to the 1960s, opening as Cardinal Spellman School. Being located near Offutt Air Force Base (STRATCOM), Catholic military families of the time banded together and began an independent elementary school. In 1996, the Omaha archdiocese accepted the responsibility of the school, and established St. Matthew Parish to serve Catholics living in the southeastern area of metropolitan Omaha. Thus, figuratively speaking, the children led the way to our current faith community.

St. Matthew the Evangelist School continues this long tradition of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to our young members and their families. And are we proud of them and their achievements!

• AdvancedEd accredited through the North Central Association, their highest ranking.

• Successful assimilation of graduates into high schools, with many placed in advanced classes.

• Spanish language program from K-8th grades, with students often entering second year Spanish as High School frosh.

• Computers available in classrooms, with skills being taught there as well as in the fully-equipped computer lab.

• Weekly celebration of the Mass, including advanced planning by the students.

• Catholic-Christian principles taught in daily religion classes, and lived in a caring, friendly atmosphere.

I invite you to come: tour our school and parish, speak with students and their parents, question our principal and staff, visit with me personally. I’m confident that you will find St. Matthew the Evangelist School to be the right choice for your family.
