Hello, my name is Mary Kathryn Baltes and I teach 2nd grade here at St. Matthew. I am so blessed to do this because it has always been my dream to teach 2nd grade in a Catholic School!
I came to St. Matthew and Nebraska by way of Indiana, where I went to college. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Joseph's College in 2010 with my B.S. in Elementary Education and Psychology. My decision to move from Indiana to Nebraska after graduation was easily made because I had lived here in Omaha as a child. My father was stationed at Offutt and I went to St. Columbkille. We moved to Ohio and my parents still live there, but Nebraska always felt like home to me. I came back to Nebraska looking for a place to make a difference and to call my own. I found that in St. Matthew.
Now I am priveleged to work with many inspiring educators and bright young students. They are so full of life and possibility! St. Matthew has given me a future and now I light the future for others. I am so truly blessed to have found may way back home. I like to say that everything is a miracle and a wonder and if you are not convinced of this by my cross-country tale then you should step into our school and into our classrooms and you will see how true it really is.
